Josh Vogel is head coach of The Jiu Jitsu Company in Philadelphia and the person behind 90 Day BJJ. A third-degree black belt with more than twenty years of teaching, training, and competing, he's spent his career chasing one question: why do some students actually get better while most just get busy?
His answer is the project-based method. Instead of a new technique every class that never sticks, students organize their training around entries, control, finishes, and the problems that keep coming up in live rounds. Everything in the system passes three filters — it has to be recognizable in real rounds, scalable from white belt to black belt, and safe enough to train for years. Nothing random, nothing you'll have to unlearn.
And he still tests it on himself. Josh competes at the top of the sport — an IBJJF Pans medalist as an adult, and a Masters Pans and Worlds medalist as recently as 2025. The method isn't something he pulled from a book; it's what keeps him on the podium.
In 2021 he opened The Jiu Jitsu Company in Old City, the award-winning academy where he still teaches every week. His private lessons book up fast, and he's earned a reputation across the BJJ community as the rare coach who competes at that level and can actually teach it.
Teaching and training six days a week, Josh can't take on privates the way he used to. 90 Day BJJ is how he gets the method behind his coaching to anyone who wants it, not just the people who make it onto his mats.
