I spent 15 years in the British Army, including serving in hostile environments as a combat soldier before being selected to serve in the prestigious Royal Army Physical Training Corps - where understanding human performance, resilience and behaviour under pressure wasn't just theory, it was part of the job. We trained soldiers to perform in some of the most demanding environments possible. After leaving the military, I moved into business, helping build global sales organisations from the ground up, including leading one organisation to go from £1 million to over a £100 million in annual sales. I then spent more than a decade coaching thousands of entrepreneurs and high performers. Time after time I kept seeing the same contradiction.
Intelligent, capable people often knew exactly what they needed to change — yet still couldn't consistently change it.
Why?
Because knowing what to do is very different from changing the patterns that drive what you actually do. That became a recurring question in my mind and one of the reasons I’ve invested more than £500,000 in my own development to study human performance, behaviour and transformation.
PatternShift is the culmination of that work.
I wanted to create the system I wish I'd had years ago — something that doesn't just give you more information, but helps you recognise the patterns holding you back and then provide you with a proven system to break them and create new ones.
"If we don’t take time to create the new pattern, the old one runs by default." — James Lavelle
