I’m Dr Naomi Murphy, a Consultant Clinical & Forensic Psychologist and accredited Sensorimotor Psychotherapy practitioner. For 20 years, I worked in a high-secure prison in England, where I developed and ran a trauma-focused treatment programme for men who had been considered “untreatable” because of their psychopathy.
Prisons are brutal working environments. Across those years, I heard and witnessed many traumatic stories, and I saw how deeply trauma can shape the body, the nervous system, and a person’s capacity to feel safe, connected, and authentic.
That work taught me that calming the nervous system is not about forcing yourself to relax or thinking your way out of distress. It begins with carefully building the capacity to notice what is happening inside, make sense of the body’s signals, and respond with enough safety and compassion to create real change.
I created CalmCore to bring trauma-informed, body-based tools to people who want to quieten their nervous system, strengthen interoceptive awareness, and live with greater integrity, presence, and authenticity.
