My journey with Turf Dance began on the streets of Oakland, where I was fortunate to be part of the movement from its earliest days. As one of the pioneers, I’ve witnessed firsthand how Turf Dance has evolved—not just as a style, but as a living, breathing culture that connects people, tells stories, and uplifts communities. Over the years, I founded Turfn 101 to create a home for Turf Dance education and to ensure that the roots and history of our culture are never forgotten.
Through teaching, documenting, and interviewing other pioneers on my Turfn Talks Podcast, I’ve seen how easily our stories and techniques can be lost if we don’t take action to preserve them. That’s why I’ve dedicated myself to creating educational content, archiving our history in The Vault, and building bridges across the global street dance community. My mission is not just to teach moves, but to honor the legacy of those who came before us and to inspire the next generation to carry the torch.
This app is the culmination of years of work, passion, and collaboration. I designed it to guide beginners through the foundations of Turf Dance, while also providing experienced dancers with advanced tools to document their journey, connect with mentors, and deepen their understanding of the culture. Every feature—from structured learning paths to exclusive interviews and historical lessons—reflects my commitment to authenticity and respect for our art form.
I believe that preserving culture is just as important as pushing it forward. My hope is that this app becomes a trusted resource for dancers, teachers, parents, and anyone who wants to understand the true spirit of Turf Dance. Together, we can ensure that our stories, knowledge, and creativity continue to inspire for generations to come.
