My journey in pattern cutting began with a fascination for how clothing shapes identity and how technical craft can become a powerful creative tool. As a fashion student in the early 1990s, I became obsessed with John Galliano's bias-cut designs. That curiosity grew into a career designing my own collections, working alongside high profile designers on collections shown at London, Milan and New York Fashion Weeks, and later developing new skills in lingerie, tailoring and menswear.
Alongside my creative practice, I have spent nearly twenty years teaching pattern cutting at institutions including Ravensbourne University, London, the University for the Creative Arts and Istituto Marangoni, Dubai, as well as delivering fashion focused workshops with The Design Museum, London. Teaching students from complete beginners to industry professionals has taught me one important lesson: pattern cutting is often made far more complicated than it needs to be.
My philosophy is simple: Fast. Easy. Accurate. Master a handful of core principles and they can be applied again and again to create an endless variety of garments.
Once the fundamentals become second nature, creativity follows naturally. The best ideas often emerge through experimentation, sampling and the occasional mistake.This course reflects the way contemporary designers actually work. Rather than treating every garment as a separate project, each module builds on the last, showing how one pattern can evolve into an entire wardrobe through thoughtful adaptation.
Along the way you'll develop technical confidence, investigate contemporary design, and tackle creative challenges that encourage you to explore your own ideas. Above all, I believe pattern cutting should be accessible, contemporary and relevant to the way we dress today. Whether you're making your first T-shirt or developing a collection, my aim is to give you the skills, confidence and curiosity to create clothing that is uniquely your own.
