VideoJoe is a “noticer” — an average Joe DIY handy helper who helps homeowners spot what needs fixing, improving, or making safer at home.

I can remember the exact day I wanted to make DIY videos. I had just moved to Maui & had to figure things out fast for how to make a living. Now granted I had been a Commercial General Contractor on the mainland for many years prior, coordinating jobs with management companies, sub-contractors, inspectors, etc. & knew how to run a jobsite effectively making sure everything looked good to pass the muster test in the end...but I have to say this was going to be different.

I lived in a vacation Condo complex where just a handful of us lived year round & decided this was the place for me to make a living...but how. I began meeting owners on property & told them my background & asked if they had anything needing to be done at their condos. I quickly compiled a list of owners who wanted me to fix & repair things & do odd mini projects in their condos. Did I know how to do all the things each condo owner wanted me to do in their condos? No...but I was going to learn. I had no choice.


I was also the point of contact for many vacationers visiting Maui, staying at this Condo complex, in case they needed my assistance for immediate service repairs etc. so I wore many hats. Now I knew I could make ends meet but I wanted more...so I decided to get a video camera & tripod to film Condo repairs/etc. & VideoJoe was born. I thought one way or the other I could make money with the DIY videos I made...not sure how I moved forward anyway.


I decided to open up a YouTube channel where I could post all my videos. Still not sure how to make money with my videos I started posting videos to my YouTube channel anyway...that was 5,500 videos ago (& counting). I learned many new things along the journey--how to fix & repair things I never thought possible...until I did it. Lots of those videos on my channel I learned along the way just as I was teaching others how they could save their hard-earned money too by DIY (do it yourself). I knew I was on the right path.


I knew I could do more for the average Joe DIY beginner because well...I'm just an average Joe too. I know how frustrating it can be not knowing how to do simple DIY things only to then have to call service techs out instead or not get the work done at all...cha'ching errrggg! That's when it hit me... why not create an app where anyone wanting to learn how to DIY could come & get assistance from me, VideoJoe? How ironic...one average Joe teaching another average Joe. What could be better than that? That's how HomeFix Helper was born.
